DESCRIPTION
The Top of the
Rockies National Scenic and Historic Byway begins at Copper
Mountain Resort, cradled in the Ten Mile and Gore wilderness
ranges just 75-miles from downtown Denver. First settled in
the 1880s by miners who called this area Wheeler Flats, Copper
Mountain Resort, established in the 1970s, is a year-round
vacation destination for the young and the young-at-heart.
Winter brings snow to 2,433 lift-serviced acres, making Copper
Mountain Resort Summit County’s largest ski area and
snowboard resort. Also known as “Colorado’s Perfect
Ski Mountain” and “The Locals’ Favorite,” Copper
owes this reputation to an award-winning trail system that
enhances the mountain’s unique geographic features, providing
naturally separated terrain for beginners, intermediates and
experts.
