Top of the Rockies National and Historic Byway Update Project
Project Description:
The Top of the Rockies National Scenic and Historic Byway (TOR) Update Project is a coordinated effort between the Top of the Rockies National Scenic and Historic Byway Board of Directors (TORB) and the USDA Forest Service (USFS). A consultant team is contracted to update the Corridor Management Plan (CMP) and Interpretive Management Plan (IMP).
This effort will integrate the recently designated, 40-mile segment from Twin Lakes, over Independence Pass, to Aspen, Colorado. The update will provide guidance for enhancing intrinsic qualities, developing design guidelines, improving Byway safety, providing quality interpretation and developing a site master plan for the Independence Pass Summit site. Updating the CMP and IMP will unify the entire length of TOR corridor. The project is anticipated for completion by the end of 2011.
Public Process:
Multiple opportunities are available for community input. Public Open House #1 to discuss the Independence Pass Summit Site was held Wednesday, June 8, 2011 in Aspen. Click on the links below for documentation of this meeting and to provide public comment. Public Open House #2 will be held from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 420 East Hopkins Ave. on the 3rd floor of the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department. As a follow up to the public open house held this past June, the client and consultant team will review and discuss opportunities for the Independence Pass Summit site, including how your ideas from the first meeting were incorporated.
